The saga continues...
As a regular webinar attendee, you may wonder where the cornflake story began. Here is the explanation sent to me by Brian.
Wendi,
As far as I can tell, corn flakes were intended to increase grain fiber intake. I suspect it's not so much that they specifically magickally reduce masturbation but were part of a program of reducing meat in the diet.
Kellog believed that meat caused unnatural sexual desires - including masturbation impulses but the guy wasn't too big on regular marital sex either. His was not the only dietary product of the time intended to reduce meat intake and thus eliminate masturbation - Shredded Wheat and Graham Crackers are part of the same movement (Graham believed that sexual intercourse more than once a month was unnatural . . . if that's the case, just call me Mr. Unnatural then).
Kellog and his contemporary anti-masturbators had some pretty twisted ideas.
There were also some "grains" of truth but the benefits of their products don't quite outway the damage. For instance, Kellog advocated that boys should be circumcised without anaesthesia as a means of curbing masturbation - he believed the pain of the procedure would give boys pause when even thinking about touching their penises (he believed that one of the reasons boys masturbate is because the foreskin rubs on the head of the penis and thus the current American practice of circumcision was born).
See http://www.ibiblio.org/stayfree/10/graham.htm for a nice overview of the fiber movement. Today, we take for granted that the food these guys developed are healthy, wholesome, good stuff . . . but the philosophy and motivation behind their development is just a lot of sick twisted stuff.
The circumcision thing is really something, so many Americans today assume it's done for cleanliness but in fact was begun as a common practice to prevent masturbation. Unfortunately, like cornflakes it became accepted by the population with the root reason for it lost . . . now, doctors routinely do the procedure without a thought when simply hygiene instruction should be enough to teach boys to keep themselves clean. Many men suffer from irritation from their circumcision scars or other side effects without knowing that is the cause of their problems . . . a completely preventable problem. Some other webpages which mention Kellog and his masturbating cornflakes:
